Passport, visa, and government identity photo specifications differ across countries and agencies. For instance, European Schengen visas, the United Kingdom, India, Singapore, and Australia typically specify a 35 × 45 mm photo with 70% to 80% facial coverage. In contrast, the United States Department of State and Indian OCI cards specify a square 2 × 2 inch (51 × 51 mm) format. Always verify the rules of the specific department you are submitting to before printing or uploading.
When submitting applications online (such as exam portals or electronic visa platforms), authorities frequently mandate pixel dimensions (e.g. 350×450 px or 600×600 px) and file size budgets (such as under 100 KB or 200 KB). When printing on photo paper at home or a local print lab, physical millimeter measurements and 300 DPI resolution are essential to avoid pixelation or blurriness. ReducerImage calculates both formats mathematically so your photo is ready for both digital upload and physical paper printing.
DPI (Dots Per Inch) determines how many pixels are mapped to every inch of physical paper. Standard photo printing requires 300 DPI. To calculate pixels from physical millimeters: Pixels = (Millimeters ÷ 25.4) × DPI. For example, a 35×45 mm photo at 300 DPI produces exactly 413 × 531 pixels. At 600 DPI, it produces 827 × 1063 pixels. Our tool performs these exact calculations dynamically without approximation.
